!! IMPORTANT UPDATE (2/12/09): This event is open to all teams and all classifications. Depending on the number of teams that participate at each age group and the breakdown of those teams in terms of classification, we will consider separating Select/AA teams from the Elite/AAA and Premier/Major teams. We reserve the right to make such decisions right up too the start of the tournament.
Welcome to the 2009 Worthington Classic July 4th N.I.T. We are thrilled to have you play in this youth baseball tournament, which is sanctioned by Nations Baseball.
This year's tournament, for ages U-9 to U-14, is scheduled for July 2nd through July 5th.
U-14 teams play on fields with dimensions of 54-ft. pitching distance and 80-ft. bases. We do not have a 60/90-ft. division. Ages U-9 to U-12 may not wear metal spikes/cleats. Click on the "Rules" tab to find tournament rules, including pitching limitations.
The Worthington Classic N.I.T. is a qualifier for the Nations Baseball national tournaments. We award bids to nationals at each age group.
The format is pool play followed by seeding for single-elimination bracket play. Seeding information is included in the tournament rules.
In addition to the fee of $425, teams must provide two baseballs per game. Any team that cancels/withdraws from the tournament within 30 days of the event (July 2, 2009) will forfeit a portion of the entry fee. See “Refund Policy”
All teams can expect to play at least one game on Thursday July 2nd, with the first game times beginning at 1:00 p.m. It is likely that some teams will play two games on Thursday and one game Friday, while some other teams will play one game Thursday and two on Friday. Bracket play is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
Games are played at Worthington area parks. Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited at all facilities.
Remember that this a youth sporting event and a recreational activity. We expect good sportsmanship. Inappropriate behavior by players, coaches, or fans will not be tolerated.
The Worthington area offers a great choice of hotels (with special negotiated rates), restaurants, and shopping. We encourage you to take in the fireworks as part of the July 4th weekend festivities. We hope you enjoy your visit!
